What is this tool?
How fast do you type? Start typing the words on screen and the timer begins. Your live WPM and accuracy update as you go, and at the end you get your net and raw speed, correct words, and how you compare. Choose the language of the words — English, Arabic, German, Chinese, and more.
WPM counts five characters as one word, the standard used by typing tests. Net WPM only counts correctly typed characters; raw WPM counts everything you typed. Accuracy is the share of correct characters.
Average adults type around 40 WPM; 60+ is fast, and professional typists exceed 80. Your best score is stored only in this browser.
How to use the Typing Speed Test
- Choose a duration (15, 30, 60, or 120 seconds) and the language of the words.
- Click the input and start typing — the timer starts with your first key.
- Press space after each word. Correct words turn green, mistakes turn red.
- When time runs out, see your WPM, accuracy, and best score, then press Restart to try again.
Examples
How WPM is calculated
Typing 250 correct characters in one minute = 250 ÷ 5 = 50 WPM.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good typing speed?
About 40 WPM is average, 60 WPM is above average, and 80+ WPM is very fast. Accuracy above 95% matters as much as speed.
Why is my raw WPM higher than my WPM?
Raw WPM counts every character you typed, including mistakes. WPM only counts correct characters, so the gap shows how much errors cost you.
Can I test in my own language?
Yes. Choose from 11 languages; the words are common everyday vocabulary. For Chinese, type the characters with your usual input method.
How can I type faster?
Learn touch typing so you don't look at the keyboard, keep your fingers on the home row, and practice a little every day. Accuracy first — speed follows.
