What is this tool?

ToolForge’s JSON Editor is a full workspace for reading, fixing, and reshaping JSON documents. Paste an API response or config file and switch between a highlighted code view, a collapsible tree, and a spreadsheet-style table. It is built for debugging sessions where a plain formatter is not enough.

JSON Editor Online-style workflows are essential for API debugging, config cleanup, and data exploration. ToolForge’s JSON Editor goes further with smart compact formatting, structural stats, interactive tree editing, table views for arrays of objects, and a built-in deep comparer.

Repair mode fixes common real-world issues: trailing commas, single quotes, unquoted keys, comments, and Python-style None/True/False literals.

Queries use a practical JSONPath-inspired language: $, .key, [n], [*], ..key recursive descent, and simple [?(@.field op value)] filters.

All processing happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to ToolForge servers.

How to use the JSON Editor

  1. Paste JSON, drop a .json file, or click Sample to load a demo document.
  2. Switch between Text, Tree, Table, and Compare modes depending on how you want to work.
  3. Edit in the code editor — syntax colors, line numbers, and live error underlines help you spot problems.
  4. Use the toolbar to Beautify, Smart format, Minify, Repair, Validate, Sort keys, Flatten, or Unflatten.
  5. Query with paths like $.store.books[*].title or search keys and values, then Copy or Download the result.

Examples

Query nested titles

Path $.store.books[*].title against the sample document.

$.store.books[*].title
[
  "Clean Code",
  "Designing Data-Intensive Applications",
  "The Pragmatic Programmer"
]

Repair messy JSON

{name: 'Ada', year: 1815,}
{
  "name": "Ada",
  "year": 1815
}

Frequently asked questions

Is my JSON uploaded?

No. Editing, formatting, repair, query, compare, and search all run entirely in your browser.

How is this different from the JSON Formatter?

The formatter focuses on pretty-print / minify / validate. The JSON Editor adds tree and table modes, repair, query, compare, search, flatten, stats, and interactive editing.

What query syntax is supported?

A JSONPath-style subset: $, .property, ["property"], [index], [*], ..property, and [?(@.field>10)] filters with == != > >= < <=.

Can I compare two JSON documents?

Yes. Open Compare mode, paste left and right documents, and click Compare to see added, removed, and changed paths.

Want more power later?

Premium tools, higher limits, and API access are on the roadmap. V1 stays free and private in your browser.
