CSV to JSON Converter

Turn CSV spreadsheets into JSON arrays.

Runs locally in your browser — your input is not uploaded.

CSV, TSV, or Excel (.xlsx / .xls) — drag and drop supported
Paste CSV or upload a .csv / Excel (.xlsx, .xls) file.

What is this tool?

Paste CSV text or upload a .csv, .tsv, or Excel spreadsheet, and this tool turns each row into a JSON object keyed by your column headers. It is a quick way to feed spreadsheet data into an API, a test fixture, or a JavaScript app.

CSV parsing must handle quoted fields, embedded commas, and escaped quotes. ToolForge uses an RFC-4180-aware parser so typical spreadsheet exports convert cleanly.

When headers are enabled, each row becomes an object keyed by the header names. Without headers, you get an array of string arrays.

How to use the CSV to JSON

  1. Paste CSV content or upload a .csv, .tsv, or Excel (.xlsx / .xls) file.
  2. Select the delimiter and whether the first row contains headers.
  3. Click Convert to produce JSON.
  4. Copy or download the JSON output.

Frequently asked questions

Are numbers automatically typed?

No. Values remain strings so leading zeros and IDs are preserved. Cast types in your application if needed.

Can I convert an Excel file?

Yes. Upload an .xlsx, .xls, or .ods file and the first sheet is read in your browser and converted like CSV. The file is never uploaded.

What if my CSV uses semicolons or tabs?

Pick Semicolon, Tab, or Pipe from the delimiter menu. Quoted fields that contain the delimiter are still parsed correctly.
