JSON Formatter Online
Format, minify, and validate JSON in your browser.
Runs locally in your browser — your input is not uploaded.
What is this tool?
The JSON Formatter turns a dense, single-line JSON payload into an indented document you can actually read, or squeezes a formatted file back down to its smallest valid form. It also validates syntax as you work, so a broken API response or config file shows up immediately.
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data format used by APIs, config files, and countless applications. Readable formatting makes nested structures easier to inspect; minified JSON is better for transport and storage.
Formatting adds whitespace and indentation so humans can scan keys and values. Minifying removes unnecessary whitespace so payloads stay small. Validation checks that the document is syntactically correct according to the JSON specification.
Common errors include trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes, unquoted keys, and comments — none of which are allowed in strict JSON.
This tool processes your input locally in the browser. Nothing is uploaded to ToolForge servers.
How to use the JSON Formatter
- Paste or type your JSON into the input area.
- Click Format to pretty-print with indentation, or Minify to compress it.
- Use Validate to check for syntax errors without changing your text.
- Copy or download the result when you are done. Clear resets the tool.

}Frequently asked questions
Is my JSON uploaded to a server?
No. Formatting, minifying, and validation all run in your browser. Your content never leaves your device.
Why does validation fail on trailing commas?
Strict JSON does not allow trailing commas after the last property or array item. Remove the extra comma and try again.
What is the difference between formatting and minifying?
Formatting adds indentation for readability. Minifying removes whitespace to produce the smallest valid JSON string.
