URL Encoder and Decoder
Percent-encode and decode URL components.
Runs locally in your browser — your input is not uploaded.
What is this tool?
Spaces, ampersands, and non-English characters can break a link or corrupt a query parameter. The URL Encoder converts them into safe %HH sequences, and the decoder turns an encoded link back into readable text.
Percent-encoding (URL encoding) replaces reserved and non-ASCII characters with %HH sequences so they can travel safely in URLs.
This tool uses encodeURIComponent / decodeURIComponent semantics, which is what you usually want for query parameter values.
How to use the URL Encoder / Decoder
- Paste the text or encoded string.
- Click Encode or Decode.
- Copy the output for use in URLs or query parameters.
Examples
Encode a query value
hello world!
hello%20world!
Frequently asked questions
Should I encode a full URL?
Usually you encode individual components (like a query value), not the entire URL including :// and /.
Why is a space encoded as %20 and not +?
encodeURIComponent always uses %20. The + form comes from HTML form encoding (application/x-www-form-urlencoded); most servers accept both in query strings.
Why does decoding fail on some input?
Usually because of a % sign that is not followed by two hex digits, or a byte sequence that is not valid UTF-8. Look for stray % characters in the text.
