Morse Code Translator
Translate text to Morse code and back, then play it as sound or a flashing light at your chosen speed.
What is this tool?
Type a message to get dots and dashes, or paste Morse code to decode it — the direction is detected automatically. Press play to hear the code and see it flash at a speed from 5 to 40 words per minute, a great way to practice copying Morse by ear.
ToolForge uses the international (ITU) Morse alphabet: letters, digits, common punctuation, and several accented letters. Other accented characters fall back to their base letter.
Timing follows the standard: a dash is three dots long, letters are separated by three units, and words by seven. Speed is measured with the word PARIS, so 20 WPM means a dot lasts 60 milliseconds.
How to use the Morse Code Translator
- Type text to encode, or paste Morse code (dots, dashes, spaces, and /) to decode. Auto-detect picks the direction.
- Read the translation below; letters are separated by spaces and words by a slash.
- Press Play to hear the code and watch the light flash. Adjust the speed and tone to taste.
- Copy or download the result.

Frequently asked questions
How do I separate words in Morse code?
Use a slash (/) or three spaces between words, and a single space between letters. The decoder also accepts • and · for dots and – or _ for dashes.
What happens to characters without a Morse code?
They are skipped and listed under the input, so you know exactly what was left out.
What speed should I practice at?
Many learners use the Farnsworth method: characters at 18–20 WPM with longer gaps. Start slower in the player and increase speed as you improve.
